Stipend Blockchain, Multiple Exploits and Optimizations
These last few weeks in particular have been very important for Stipend, primarily as they explicitly tested the stability of the blockchain throughout and helped us to stamp out a few dangerous exploits that would have caused problems in the long run.
I personally had my hands full with this. In the last few weeks, I worked on completely re-coding MN payments. Before, it primarily was based on a scoring system that each wallet calculated. This allowed for a few individuals to tamper with their wallets and decide which MN to pay when finding a block. The new system is a straight queue, and pays out to the MN that hasn’t received a block in the longest period of time. This helps for each individual wallet to independently verify the MN reward payee, and reject blocks that try to modify this.
When implementing this model, though, the handling of newly created MNs within the queue presented some difficulty. You’d think it’d be as simple as just putting them at the end, but in order to ensure that the queue is the same across every wallet, we had to code it so that the chain looks through the last ~4000 blocks and specifically marks every instance of a MN receiving a reward. Newer MNs in particular have never received a reward within these blocks, and as a result, it places them at the front of the queue. That’s why you may have seen some examples where an individual creates a MN, gets a reward, destroys their MN, and then recreates it. In order to fix this, we contemplated quite a few solutions and decided to simply increase the number of confirmations the MN collateral must have (600) before it’s allowed to create a MN.
Overall, though, these last few weeks will only make Stipend stronger as a whole. Now that each individual exploit has been identified and patched, the chain will be much more stable in the coming months and years. Next week, I’ll continue to work more with the wallets and blockchain. I can’t foresee another mandatory update for quite a while though–I’ll just be adding more features to improve the technology even further.
Alpha Launch preparation / UI&UX last pages being delivered
In the last few weeks, I’ve been modifying/testing/updating endpoints that frontend will consume. This is similar to what I’ve been doing lately and will be pretty much what I’ll continue on doing until the platform is released (among other things here and there), since most of the features are already done, I just need to focus on details in this iterative approach.
The current state of platform is that the backend is mainly done (still needs some tweaks here and there), but the frontend needs more work. The work on the frontend is being done on a daily basis so we’ll try to record some videos about it in the near future but prior to launch – because showing alpha’s progress without videos is really hard.
If anyone’s curious, mid-way through us working on the platform we decided to scrap the old designs and go for newer, more modern style – which definitely pushed the release date a bit. Then, a bit later, we also decided to go with full Single-Page Application (SPA) as opposed to server-side rendered application, which pushed the release date back as well.
The reason behind those decisions is that we always wanted to have SPA in the end – originally we thought of writing a server-side rendered application first and then to later refactor it entirely. However, that plan wasn’t the best because doing refactor of that level while the product is in production mode makes it that much more difficult, so we decided it was a safer approach to concentrate on SPA from the get-go even if that means the release date will be pushed back a little.
The alpha release at the end of this month won’t ship with all the features, mainly because of the things I just described – however we locked in the tech stack now so nothing major won’t be changing from now on. Once alpha is released, we’ll keep doing the incremental updates until we have all the functionality we want/planned.
Next to that, we’re also in the process of setting up servers for the launch. Our main idea right now is to containerize everything using Docker and then to distribute containers on the servers underneath the load balancers. More and more time gets spent in this department as well nowadays. While everything isn’t 100% ready yet – we want to get started on this rather sooner than later.
Press Releases ! IDAX Listing CONFIRMED, New Exchanges talks (3 More Tier 2+ exchanges) !
Hi everyone, after the latest events related to our main exchange issues, we forced our hand to take the closest exchange to list the project on the 4 Exchanges we are in contact with, we ended up choosing IDAX for the relation we have with their Dev Team and also the amazing effort they showed to list the project before the 26 JUNE.
We are proud to announce that stipend will be listed on IDAX the listing fee was deducted from the premine, since the donations weren’t enough to cover the full 10 BTC listing fee. An amount of 80.000 SPD will be moved this week to cover the IDAX Listing Fee.

Press Releases :
STIPEND AT MALTA BLOCKCHAIN SUMMIT ! Massive marketing Campaign in partnership with IDAX ! Stipend’s Development Masternodes Fund ! FIRST STIPEND’S Community Member in MALTA with the team !
Hi everyone development continues both on the Alpha side and the Blockchain side, aware of the latest issues we are already on track to fix them as soon as possible especially with the next 210k milestone coming up.
The numerous companies, governments and people we met at Dubai are waiting now for a the launch and this is why we’ve been pushing the platform development lately, and we wish to thank everyone supporting us !
What was this week about?
Stipend at Malta Blockchain Summit : Stipend has been invited to the Famous Malta Blockchain Summit to represent the Masternode & Pos Projects, we now be present at the booth number 145. https://cryptoaffiliateconf.com/
Massive marketing Campaign in partnership with IDAX : We conducted a partnership with IDAX to launch a massive marketing campaign after the 26 JUNE 2018 on it’s 100.000 Daily users to raise awareness about Stipend for it’s community, we remind you that IDAX has over 60M$ daily volume trading and would greatly influence the future of the project as the second exchange we are being listed into, 15.000 SPD from the premine will be used as a marketing fund to promote Stipend on the IDAX exchange.
Stipend’s Development Masternodes Fund : We always knew at some point that without some form of gradual income, we would be unable to sustain the rapid growth of the coin with the current business model (developers, listings, marketing, etc). As a result, we’ve made the decision to operate Masternodes of our own, equivalent to 5-7.5% of the Masternodes network rather than take a portion of each individual block.
The Masternodes setup will starts after the incoming fork at block 225.000, and counting a progressive addition of Masternodes to ensure a slow introduction to the network !
Congratulations to the community member Peter Lagoda Aka pedro77pl#5194 for both winning the FULL PAID TRIP TO MALTA to be present with the team during the MALTA Blockchain Summit, but also for being promoted as the first official Adviser of the team and will be introduced and revealed to the community next update along with the next winner (2 More Community Spots to Malta). Peter was supporting the project while never asking for anything in return, this is a way to show our deep gratitude other than diligently continue the development of Stipend to it’s full release, traveling with the team is also an occasion for an exclusive time with the team and directly ask for any request or introduce any feedback related to the project in general !
Stipend – Entreprise Edition : The idea evolved and shaped after the last events, getting Stipend to start making a special edition for companies that are involved in the Outsourcing business they expressed a deep interest and we are now talking on a daily basis with a large number of real companies, they will be granted an access during the Alpha/Beta to test out the platform if everything goes well we will start with a 10% of their whole market as a first step of the contract at the same time bringing a huge volume since early days of launch !
Stipend Shop : As you all know we have a shop now to support the team, we are planing to add a new tshirt design every week but we didn’t had time this week !
Shop link : https://shop.spreadshirt.com/stipend/
What will this week be about?
Focus on followups of the FutureBlockchainSummit event and try to get some tasks done on the legal side of Stipend (SEC).
Freelancers Union Partnership’s Interview Available next week
An interview was held during the past weeks with a top executives of one of the states of Freelancers Union and is now being confirmed and reworked to be hosted both for the Freelancers Union community and the Stipend Community This may be a big push of exposure couple of days before the launch of our first official Pre-Alpha Launch !
Minor recap on the Freelancers Union situation :
Some of you may not be aware of this but for the past few months after the Partnership Team got formed I’ve been quietly growing a relationship with the Freelancer Union Wisconsin Branch https://www.freelancersunion.org/ (the Freelancer Union represents 57 Million Freelancers in the US and does not have much international presence).
Today when I talked to the Freelancer Union representative from WI he was “extremely excited about Stipend and the use of smart contracts to solve payment problems!!” The feedback I received was that freelances are seeking the solutions that Stipend is actually solving :
- 1) Supply Work
- 2) Manage Payments
- 3) Provide insurance (professional and personal) Coverage.
I’m very excited about meeting with the WI branch again once Alpha is launched and feel confident that this is a path to the National Organization (57Millions US Freelancer). If anyone has additional comments or advice on connecting with Freelancers at mass I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Please feel free to PM me or message in other channels as needed.
Raspberry Pi Platform’s Wallet/Daemon
In response to repeated requests from our community I was able to compile masternode daemon and desktop wallet for Raspberry Pi platform. It allows for cost and energy effective staking. Stipend has now one of the best in class operating system support for it’s wallet.
Reorganizing & Restructuring the Team’s canals of communications.
The past few weeks have been critical ones for Stipend. It is my humble opinion that the core team continues to distinguish themselves in many ways, primarily through their technical competence but also through their exemplary diligence in maintaining frequent, honest interactions with the community. My contributions have involved work to leverage and amplify the team’s many existing strengths, as well as developing ways to improve on some potential areas of improvement. Examples include reorganization of the primary community social hub (Discord) as well as a number of internal initiatives that are not currently visible but will hopefully bear fruit going forward. It has been an honor to have the chance to work with such a talented and dedicated group of people–I look forward to being even a small part of this team’s amazing journey.
CryptoBridge issues follow-up – OneSmart Education Partnership talks
Hello everyone, this week we have been working with Crypto-Bridge, regarding deposit issues. We complied a database of all users who experienced issues with Crypto-Bridge so their developers can fix all ticket queries more efficiently. We have also arranged for the a updated v4 wallets on Crypto-Bridge.
Stat and I are will also be focusing on professionalizing and streamlining Stipend prior to the Malta Conference. In addition, we have begun to modify the organization of the discord, removing inactive or redundant channels, as well as creating new ones. Me and stat are still testing new approaches to this angle so if you have any suggestions please let us know .
Talking to OneSmart Education and its subsidiaries CEO, after visiting its subsidiaries Headquarters in Shanghai for the possibility of expanding the use of freelancing platforms to expand our opportunities internationally. One more angle into the freelancing market is the educational realm, in which mathematics and English education has become a multibillion USD market in China, which is now heavily dependent on freelancer type workers.
If you have any suggestions of concerns, please feel free to contact me. Have a good day
